During Fall Fest, we were honored to recognize Metropolis Coffee Company as our Industrial Business of the Year.

Metropolis Coffee embodies sustainability, industry excellence, and a community-minded focus. It was founded by a dynamic father-son duo, Tony and Jeff Dreyfus in 2003, who were determined to build a community around coffee.

Metropolis Coffee Cafe - O'Hare Airport

Located in Avondale, Metropolis Coffee roasts approximately 1,000,000 pounds of coffee annually at its 18,000 square foot roastery in the Rockwell on the River development.

The company recently became Safe Quality Food certified, positioning it to sell its products in major retailers like Costco. And it invested in technology that led to the development of the first compostable expresso capsules in North America.

Following the pandemic, Metropolis Coffee re-opened its community-focused café in Edgewater near Loyola University and Senn High School.

This café is a safe and welcoming destination with a redesigned seating area to encourage gatherings. The shop also has a new community friendly menu and carries paletas from the Chicago-based Paleta Factory.

Last year, Metropolis Coffee launched a program called Aspire Coffee Works that provides part-time jobs to adults with developmental disabilities. The program is a model for businesses of the benefits of opening doors to adults with developmental disabilities.

Metropolis is doing its part to reduce the high unemployment rates of adults with disabilities, currently at 78%.

And if that isn’t enough, in 2024, Metropolis Coffee successfully opened a café at Chicago’s O’Hare Airport in the international terminal, Terminal 5.

The café is open daily from 3:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. Please check it out the next time you’re traveling.
