On Tuesday, Nov. 25th, Goose Island Shrimp House (1011 W. Division Street) held a turkey giveaway for people and families in need of Thanksgiving meals.

Within two hours, the family-owned business gave away 100 meal packs to Chicago residents. These meals included a turkey, side dishes, and drinks.

Goose Island Shrimp House led the first ever turkey giveway on Goose Island. The business plans to do many more and would love to partner with fellow businesses to have a larger impact on the community.

A Black-owned business, Goose Island Shrimp House has operated for over fifty years from its location at 1011 W. Division Street. The company has created a community-feel at the restaurant; workers regularly greet and check in on their customers.

The restaurant is well known for its carryout service and signature fried shrimp. It’s a must-visit for all seafood lovers.

The restaurant has played a leading role in promoting resilience, culture, and community through its historical ties to the Cabrini-Green housing project. The shrimp house also attracts visits from celebrities such as Steve Harvey, Jamie Foxx, and Shaquille O’Neal.

Giving back to the community is a strong value of the owner, Lamone, and his family. Whenever possible, Goose Island Shrimp House will make financial donations, donate food, and support neighborhood causes.

It was an inspiring display of Goose Island Shrimp House’s compassion for its customers and Chicago residents. The event started at 11 a.m. and went until supplies ran out.

Indeed, the first person who came to pick up a meal was very grateful and without this giveaway would not have had a meal on Thanksgiving.

The turkey giveaway also caused a commotion along a packed Division Street, resulting in an RC semi-truck driver doing a U-turn in the middle of traffic congestion so that he could pick up a turkey and sides for the holiday.

North Branch Works was honored to partner with Goose Island Shrimp House on the Thanksgiving meal giveaway.

Our staff was inspired by the deep love that Goose Island Shrimp House has for the community.

We’re excited to work with Lamone and his family to host a larger event with an even greater community impact in 2026.

Stay tuned for opportunities to support this event in the coming year.
