Through upgrades such as LED bulbs, new light fixtures, and smart thermostats, ComEd’s energy efficiency program is delivering meaningful benefits in our service area.
In April, North Branch Works partnered with Extra Electric LED and Mike Rogers to help local businesses take advantage of ComEd incentives and lower their monthly energy costs.
Mike worked with NBW staff to conduct energy assessments for local businesses and recommend equipment upgrades designed to reduce monthly utility bills.
In most cases, the ComEd program covered the full cost of the new equipment while lowering ongoing energy expenses.
Here are a few examples of how businesses in the North Branch benefited from the program:
- MxD on Goose Island converted more than 200 bulbs to LED and installed additional energy-efficient fixtures. The project is expected to save the company about $18,000 annually in energy costs.
- Bash Sports Academy (pictured) at 2617 W. Fletcher St. in Avondale replaced all of its lighting with LED bulbs and added new fixtures, improving visibility for baseball players training in the afternoons and evenings.
- The Alley Chicago replaced more than 200 bulbs with LEDs and installed five smart thermostats that can be controlled by cell phone. These upgrades are expected to cut monthly energy costs for The Alley and The Art Colony by $500.
- Hyun’s Hapkido & Taekwondo School, located at 2743 N. Western, installed new LED lights and fixtures. The project is expected to reduce energy use by 75%.
- Boulevard Bistro, 2753 N. Western Ave., replaced fluorescent lighting with LEDs and installed new fixtures.
- Lucky Dog Pet Service, at 2945 N. Elston, installed new LED lights and fixtures and added an exterior light at no cost to the owner.
- HM Witt & Company installed new LED lights, fixtures, and smart thermostats at its manufacturing facility in the Kennedy Industrial Corridor.
Although the highest incentives ended in April, NBW continues to connect businesses with the ComEd program to help them achieve significant energy savings.
